We offer two options in Digital Cinematography for your Digital Feature:

Option A:

If you are strictly aiming for a film release, this is your best option.

We offer a 3 CCD PAL DV camera.

The PAL format ensures a smooth transfer to motion picture, since it records at 25 frames per second. That means, your footage is transferred at the ratio of 1:1 since film runs at 24 frames per second. You may also choose us to shoot in NTSC and still be able to get a good transfer through a professional lab.

This option rivals 16mm film quality and even goes a step further by offering you wide screen to match a 35mm print's aspect ratio. We use anamorphic lenses and other lenses to create depth and a true wide screen image as in film.

With RA Vision you do not have to worry about contrast, sharpness and detail settings, black level, color level adjustments among many other details needed to achieve the best DV to 35 mm transfer.

The portability of the camera makes it unobtrusive and almost like another actor in your scenes.

A true wide screen PAL field monitor with underscan is available at RA Vision for this option.

Examples of films produced using this option include: "The Celebration", "Chuck and Buck", "Everything put together" and "Dancer in the Dark".

Two great labs for this particular type of transfer are Swiss Effects in Switzerland and 4MC in the United States.

Option B:

If you are going to produce your film and release it straight to video and/or DVD but you have some hope that the film might be blown to 35 mm, this is your best option.

Our strategy with your production will be more focused on techniques geared towards a straight to video release but safe for a 35mm blow up.

Hence, we will shoot your feature using an NTSC three-chip DV camera, maintaining an aspect ratio of 4:3 for straight to video distribution purposes.

However, the frame is protected for a video to film transfer in case a distributor decides to invest money into your feature for a 35mm transfer down the road.

What you need to first understand is that shooting on Digital for film and shooting on Digital to simulate a film look are completely two different processes.

A straight to video feature must possess a film look necessary to remain distinguishable from a TV Program. Therefore, we process your feature through Cine look which emulates the film stock that best matches your footage. The result is a final product that is indistinguishable from film.

The use of a Steadicam for cinematic camera movements is available at RA Vision for this option.

Multiple cameras are available for your DV Feature for this option as well as a Field monitor.
